| I look back at my short lived experience as a Music Performance major and am faced with both regret and realization. I regret that so much time and effort had been put forth for what now seems like nothing. And then I realize that this "mistake" has led me to meet so many amazing people. (see tagged, I reached my limit so don't be offended if you aren't tagged. You should know who you are anyways.) I am a musician no matter my decisions in life and will continue to perform in the ensembles which I so passionately love. Being who I am, it would be next to impossible to remove music from my existence completely. I want people to still think about me and pair the thought with "He's a great and passionate musician." "Why?" you might ask. While I loved the performance aspects of the major (the large ensembles) I have discovered, assisted by the honesty (which I appreciate) of Professor Bubert, that I lack the work ethic and drive to become a professional musician. I also have no desire to become a Band Director. "What will you pursue now?" I will be doing almost a complete 180 in my switch. I will now focus on obtaining my degree in Aviation, which will be utilized to become an Air Traffic controller in the Department of Defense/Transportation for the US Government. There are certain things set in motion with jeopardize the integrity and overall prestige of the profession. My parents, being Air Traffic Controllers, are directly affected by this. I can no longer stand by and accept the Idiocy of the Government that once supported and desperately needed these Controllers. I will succeed my parents as soon as they retire and do my best serve the Federal Aviation Administration while bringing back the appreciation and honor of these fine men and women whom strive so much to keep our skies safe. So thank you to all that have been there for me this past semester and a half. I am truly privileged to have met you. However, do not fear. I won't be going too far. -Dillon Ray Parker |
